Eliza thompson house savannah review7/8/2023 ![]() ![]() One caveat, wear good shoes, preferably not sandals, when walking around the historic areas of Savannah as the old brick sidewalks and streets remain and are often damaged, missing bricks or are uneven. We enjoyed the House so much we may on a future vacation do just the reverse, fly to Savannah for a few days and then drive to Florida. By the way Alamo (good) did not charge us the drop off fee we would have had to pay for leaving the car in Savannah since we were evacuating because of the storm. A special thanks to Matthew Watson and his wife who is also on the staff, for tending to our every need. The entire staff is hardworking and wonderful. We took our deserts down to the courtyard and enjoyed them there. When we got back, sure enough there it was in our room. My wife and friends were going out to dinner so we asked if they could put aside some desert for us to have when we returned. In the evening they have a wine and cheese hour and later they serve desert (amazing). They have an open courtyard in the back where you can sit and relax and where they also serve a wonderful breakfast (not the standard fare you get in most chain hotels, ie: the french toast was home made). The rooms were clean and the bed comfortable. We saw six people in an "open top, convertible hearse" getting a tour of the town). First I did not meet up with any ghosts, but I am told they are as warm and welcoming as the rest of the staff (Savannah is big on evening tours through the town, graveyards and old historic homes in search of personalities who once resided there and never left. (No one was pulling down any statues there, thank God). While we stayed in Savannah at the Eliza Thomson House only one night/day, we were able to enjoy true Southern hospitality as is often spoken of when visiting and is the pride of US states in the south. So we were able to book the Eliza Thompson House. We had to find a hotel to stay in overnight for our flight out Friday. Jet Blue did say they had flights out of Savannah, 360 miles away (road trip). ![]() But Irma was on her way and Delta (bad) would not change our flight so we could leave early and there were no flights available anywhere nearby for us to get home to Long Island, NY. It would have been useful to have a guest refrigerator on each floor the steps are a killer and my insulin has to be refrigerated. My loving wife and I were looking forward to spending a wonderful week on vacation in Sarasota Florida. The quite unclean chandelier made me wonder what else was not fully cleaned. 4 instead of a five because of the switching of rooms and they never really told us we figured it out on our own. The rooms are very nice, we stayed in The Savannah Room. There is a wine and cheese hour in the evening. The bellman and the staff were more than accommodating. The staff were all friendly and helpful, puplic computer with printer was very helpful, breakfast buffet was delicious and filling. 90 reviews of Eliza Thompson House 'The Eliza Thompson house was the best bed and breakfast that I have stayed at. the evening snacks served from 5:30 - 7:00 a red and white wine as well as sodas, Meatballs, pepperoni bruchetta, salad, cheeses, and fruit were scrumptious, Evening deserts and brandy along with friendly company was enjoyable after 8. The private alleyway to street access and next to the breakfast buffet room was to me a huge asset. Also oddly the chandelier was quite dirty. The room was well appointed except for a couple things no paintings on the walls and a small thing but only two pillows. We were supposed to stay in the Savannah room but were switched to the Oglethorpe room on street level. During the week the rates are much better with same amenities. We decided to splurge on two night stay at this lovely old mansion. We saved $$$ at dinner as we had already Appetizers and Wine and looked forward to Dessert, Coffee and Sherry when we returned "home" to Eliza! Highly recommend!! More Show less one night the Manager himself baked us a huge Pineapple Upside Down Cake! Appetizers and Desserts were always high quality and abundant. An act permitting the building of a dam across the Savannah River at Gregg. We enjoyed visiting with other guests at these events, sharing our days adventures and reviews of all the local restaurants we had visited.abundant and near. The message further announced that the House insists upon its amendment to. Hosts provided everything we needed from delicious breakfast (huge buffet) to amazing appetizers and wine at happy hour to decadent desserts, coffee and even a nip of sherry as everyone returns from dinner. Accommodations so nice and comfy.large room private bath It was very cold during our stay but room always perfect temperature. Great location.walking distance from Forsyth Park all the way to river with everything you want to see in between. The listings have all the pertinent info on location, etc and did not disappoint! The Eliza Thompson House was lovely. We used Trip Advisor to choose a B&B for our first trip to Savannah. ![]()
